Sledding

Today, we took Connor on his first ever sledding trip. There is a park around the corner that has a hill that is the perfect size for him. Daddy and Connor had a great time sledding, and mommy had a great time taking pictures! Here are some of the better ones.

Santa Clause Came to Town

Connor had a WONDERFUL Christmas (so did Daddy and Mommy). Everyone was very generous to our little boy. It took us two days to get to opening and playing with everything he received. Connor only asked Santa for one thing.. "train stuff". Now, mommy and daddy feel that Connor has PLENTY of trains, but, Santa fulfilled the request anyway. Connor got a very cool red locomotive for Christmas from Santa. I am still gathering pictures of all the great gifts he received, but here are some from Oma's house on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning at our house. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Thank you all for the wonderful gifts!

Well, You Coming?

WOO! WOO! The whistle blows.... All aboard! Two days before Christmas we took a ride on the Polar Express. This is becoming a Doebler family tradition (3 years in a row now). Our great friends the Cockrells have joined us for the last two, and we've had a great time! We get to have chocolate chip cookies, drink hot chocolate, sing Christmas Carols, read the story AND meet Santa. Santa even gave all the kids a bell. A great time was had by all and it was a great way to welcome Christmas....

Beaches?

You may wonder why I would pick this blog template at this time of year. It's about 18 degress outside, it's snowed 4 of the last 5 days and all the Christmas decorations in the yard are buried...so why on earth would I torture us all with a picture of warm, sunny beaches??

HAWAII....that's why. On January 9th, we take off for beautiful Oahu. We will be gone an entire week. Jealous yet?

The Cutest Things...

As you all know already, I adore my little Connor. I know most parents feel this way about their children. I also know that the things he says and does are probably cuter to Mat and I than they are to everyone else, but I wanted to share them anyway. No matter how bad my day has been, he always makes me smile. Here are some of the ways...

  • The very first thing out of his mouth this morning when he woke up was, "Did Santa come yet?"
  • As I was laying down with him to sleep tonight, he said, "Last day (his term for yesterday...also very cute) I closed my eyes and I realized there was a movie behind them." I believe this is his way of describing a dream.
  • Last week, he was at my mom's talking on his pretend cell phone. At one point he said, "Oma, go to the other level (a different room). You are disturbing me."
  • Yesterday, while I was gone shopping, he told Daddy.. "My elephant is getting bigger." For those who don't know, "elephant" is Connor's name for his penis.
  • He is starting to learn to negotiate and compromise. For example, tonight when he wanted to go to Tante Nen-Nen's to play with her train, he said, "But mommy, I've seen you all day and I haven't seen Tante Nen-Nen in a long time!"
  • A few nights ago he was saying his prayers before going to sleep. For each person he wanted to pray for, he had to say the same prayer over and over (complete with the "father, son, and holy spirit"). The prayer was "bless us oh lord for these thy gifts...
  • Connor's preschool teacher has a little elf in her classroom (http://www.theelfontheshelf.com/) Each day, they elf is hiding in a different place in the classroom. The story is that the elf (aka "Gingerbread") watches them and then reports back to Santa at night. We have to run in every morning to find the elf. When he sees him, he gets SO excited, almost screaming with excitement. It is honestly the cutest thing I have ever seen.
  • He has a play guitar. He walks around the house pretending to strum on his guitar and sings "Jingle Bells".
  • Aunt Sam is pregnant (WOO HOOO!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS SAM AND MIKE WE ARE SOOOO HAPPY FOR YOU!). Connor wants to know if we can take care of Aunt Sam's baby at our house.
  • He loves to pretend to talk on the phone. He has conversations with all sorts of people, both real and imagined. One day, he was talking to Grandma, who was in jail because she said "stupid".

Hope these little tales made you smile, even just a little. Merry Christmas!!!

Those were the days...

Do you remember when the greatest toy in the world was a box? Do you remember when you used to FIT in a box? Well, these are those days for Connor. Though, I cannot believe he can fit in a box that was for a knife block... WOW

Welcome Christmas!

On Saturday we went to the Christmas Parade and officially welcomed Santa and the Christmas Season. We had hot chocolate floats, saw the lighting of the Christmas tree, heard Christmas carols and saw Santa come to town. Connor had a great little friend to watch with. Welcome Christmas!

Hi SANTA!!!

Two little rascals....

Yummy hot chocolate!

This is fun!

The Angelina Scholarship

Also at Grandparents Day, Connor's school dedicated a plaque for the scholarship fund we set up. The plaque is hanging outside Connor's pre-school door and will list the recipient of the scholarship for each year. Below is a picture, and this is what it says:

"In loving memory of Angelina Doebler, her parents Cindy and Mathew Doebler, have established the Angelina Scholarship. Angelina went to live with Jesus 42 minutes after her birth on September 2, 2008. This precious child will live forever in the hearts and memories of her family and the Saint Joseph Catholic School Family.

The young girls who receive this scholarship will be a daily reminder that Angelina's life, while short in time on this earth, served a wonderful purpose and will never be forgotten. Angelina's struggle, her never giving up, shows each of us how important and precious life really is."

Grandparents Day at School

The day before Thanksgiving was Grandparents Day at Connor's school. Sadly, not all his grandparents were able to come. Grandpa and Grandma live too far away, and Opa was not feeling well, but Oma came. Mommy and Daddy entertained Connor until Oma was able to come. Connor sure loved having everyone at school with him, and as you can see here, wouldn't leave Oma's side. We all had a lot of fun!
